We are delighted to present a new solo exhibition by Sophie La Maitre.

Inspired by the ever-changing skyscapes glimpsed in quiet moments, these new paintings radiate with myriad hues and shifting forms. The dusky purple shadows that linger just before nightfall, the leaves that seem to shimmer in the light at golden hour, or the weathered red bricks of old houses. Blending these colours between washes of acrylic paint in thin applications, Sophie creates harmonious arrangements that evoke a sense of calm.

“Time slows and my everyday worries dissolve, as my backyard becomes a viewing platform for the sky. Clouds and sunlight weave across the spaces of the horizon in an intricate dance. In these precious, fleeting moments of awe, it feels as though you can experience four different skies simultaneously. In whichever direction you face the hues transform, the blush of dawn, the brilliance of midday, or the quietude of twilight.”
Sophie La Maitre

Since graduating in 2017 from Edith Cowan University with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), she has exhibited regularly, undertaken a number of residencies and had her work acquired by private collections across Australia.
