Svetlana Trefilova: Diffusion Webb Gallery

My microscopic observations of nature, using both a scientific and artistic eye, helped me establish diffusion as the key technical method of my artwork. I dilute acrylic paints to different viscosities and use different surface tensions to create a visual diffusion of paint on paper and canvas. In doing so, I demonstrate diffusion as one of the main processes in the living cellular body of a plant.

My art works display physical processes that exist in living cells and tissues, but are invisible, thus creating visual models of those systems. This is an example of what art can do for science: make the invisible visible.

In 2007 seventeen students joined forces to establish the J&SO Collective. They joined forces to establish a way to test the market
for their original works. In 2022 the J&SO Collective continues and this year is celebrating its fifteenth year! This exhibition features works from current and former members representing the past fifteen years.

Claire Grant: Up in the air – 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 π†πšπ₯π₯𝐞𝐫𝐲

β€œIn this exhibition Claire Grant marries the astounding technologies of instant image capture and air travel, through her own lived experience as an artist and flight attendant. Moreover, she has done so at a time when much of the global population was undergoing a strange and profound stillness. As such these artworks provide us with a unique outlook on the pandemic (when most of us were grounded from flying)and an aviation sector under threat of collapse. Through the integration of everyday
and specialist materials, new and old photographic techniques, Grant elevates the mundane routine of her daily work on a regional charter aircraft to a complex and thoughtful study.”
