Onespace Gallery is excited to present Ayuva Meenha (‘My Mark’) a suite of vinyl-cut prints by by Cairns-based artist, Teho Ropeyarn. Ayuva Meenha is Teho Ropeyarn’s first solo exhibition in Brisbane. Teho Ropeyarn is an early mid-career artist and curator from the community of Injinoo, Cape York Peninsula, Queensland. He is a descendant of the Seven Rivers Peoples of Angkamuthi and connected to the Yadhaykana clan group located on the West and East coasts of Northern Cape York Peninsula. Teho has extended heritage to Moa, Badu and Murray Island in the Torres Strait and Woppaburra – Great Keppel Island and the Batchulla people from Fraser Island.
Teho’s work is collected by the National Gallery of Australia, he is an alumnus of the Museum of Contemporary Art (Sydney) Primavera exhibition program (in 2012), his work was curated into QAGOMA’s prestigious GOMA Q: Queensland Contemporary Art exhibition in 2015, and he is the recipient of numerous arts grants and awards in Australia.
Teho Ropeyarn will be attending his exhibition opening on Saturday, 7 November 2020, from 4pm – 8pm.
“Ropeyarn illustrates the history and fate of his family and culture through works that display his talent as a carver and printer who takes risks and pushes the medium of printmaking. The exhibition brings together well-researched, intelligent and culturally significant works produced over the past few years.
