From July to October, Queensland’s major arts organisations at the Cultural Centre, South Bank, joined forces to present The Torres Strait Islands: A Celebration, showcasing the diverse arts and vibrant cultures of the Torres Strait Islands. The event included a spectacular weekend of performances, dance and music. As part of the project GoMA also presented a major exhibition of contemporary Torres Strait Islander art in Land, Sea and Sky. Commissioned by the Cultural Centre, South Bank as part of ‘The Torres Strait Islands: A Celebration’, filmmaker Daniel Marsden was invited to capture this significant project, resulting in The Clouds Have Stories: The Art of the Torres Strait Islands. The film, which has its premiere screening during the Brisbane International Film festival, is an intimate look at the p eople and works that make up both traditional and contemporary Torres Strait Islander art.
