Gold Coast feminist arts collective The Golden Thread (est. 2022) presents its debut group exhibition Revelations, bringing together the work of 30 women and gender diverse artists from across the region.
Carefully curated by the collective’s founding members, Revelations marks the first time the Golden Thread artists will exhibit together, showcasing a dynamic range of practices including painting, sculpture, textiles, photography, installation, video, and performance.
Centered on the provocation of “Revelations”, the exhibition explores the transformative impact of when the hidden, secret, or unknown is suddenly revealed—whether unexpectedly, enlighteningly, or supernaturally.
The opening night will feature live performances by experimental artist Lewis and Indonesian-Australian choreographer Juliet Widyasari Burnett. The closing event will present works by choreographer Kate Harman, dancer Tilly Backus, and musician Creation Saffinga (of local band Selve).
A bespoke gallery shop will accompany the show, featuring original small works, ceramics, zines, mugs, and fine art prints by We Sell Prints.
Founded by Gold Coast artists Tal Fitzpatrick and Merinda Davies, The Golden Thread was established to nurture community, collaboration, and visibility among femme and gender diverse creatives.
“We started this network with the intention of nurturing community amongst practitioners and sharing skills, resources and experiences,” says Fitzpatrick. “The Golden Thread has grown to become a supportive, empowering network that champions femme and gender diverse artists regardless of what medium they work in or what stage of their career they’re in. We can’t wait to share this talent with the wider community through Revelations.”
