WE CALL YOU! Sisters! Mothers! Workers! is the first Australian exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist and filmmaker Petra Bauer. The exhibition presents films from her long-term collaborative series Looking for Jeanne, developed with feminist activist organisations and collaborators including Southall Black Sisters, SCOT-PEP, Carolina Sinisalo, Marius Dybwad Brandrud, Frances Stacey, and Marta Dauliūtė.

Drawing inspiration from Chantal Akerman’s 1975 film Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, Bauer’s work meditates on the political potential of everyday labour—foregrounding acts of cleaning, food preparation, and domestic care as forms of resistance, organisation, and feminist solidarity. Blending aesthetics and activism, the films illuminate how undervalued domestic routines can fuel collective consciousness and social change.

This exhibition is curated by Benison Kilby (PhD Candidate), forming part of the inaugural Kinnane PhD in Art History by Exhibition, supported by the University of Queensland’s School of Communication and Arts.

Collaborators include:

  • Southall Black Sisters

  • SCOT-PEP

  • Carolina Sinisalo

  • Marius Dybwad Brandrud

  • Frances Stacey

  • Marta Dauliūtė
