The Basil Sellers Art Prize is a major national Australian art prize celebrating artistic excellence in 2D works across painting, drawing and printmaking. The acquisitive biennial prize supports artists at all stages of their careers and welcomes entries from artists across Australia.

The Prize has an artist-first ethos, with a focus on accessibility and reducing some of the financial and administrative barriers associated with entering art prizes.

The 2026 Prize offers a $55,000+ prize pool, including the $50,000 acquisitive Basil Sellers Art Prize, a $5,000 Eurobodalla Award for an eligible local artist and a $500 People’s Choice Award.

Key dates:

  • Entries open: Monday 1 June 2026
  • Entries close: midnight Friday 11 September 2026
  • Finalists announced: Friday 16 October 2026
  • Opening and winners’ announcement: Friday 4 December 2026, from 5.30pm
  • Exhibition: Saturday 5 December 2026 – Saturday 30 January 2027

The Prize is open to Australian residents aged over 18 whose principal place of residence is Australia. Eligible works must be 2D and use painting, drawing or printmaking in traditional media.
