Inhabit a fantasy world of feminine eroticism and of absent bodies.
A field of translucent textile sculptures, Fantasies is about connection and dissolving, curiosity for new sensations, and the strangeness of being in a body. Salvaged everyday textile items of bygone eras are transformed to accentuate their imbued cultural significance as objects of material culture.
1960s-70s fabrics, lace trims, bed linen, milliner’s straw, grosgrain ribbons, hoola-hoops, garter belt clips, undergarments and nighties are repurposed to playfully celebrate conscious and unconscious desires, erotic longings, excitements and curiosities connected to intimacy and aloneness.
Engaging with ideas around feminism, material culture, sexuality and eroticism, the works are metaphorical and suggestive, playful and quiet. Through their sheer tulle and lace components the sculptures resonate against and through one another.
In 2017 individual pieces from this series have been shown at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (WA), Yarra Sculpture Gallery (VIC) and Craft Victoria.
Please note: Some of these works can be touched.
