John Kotzas AM Appointed New Head of Arts and Culture at Experience Gold Coast

Experience Gold Coast has announced the appointment of John Kotzas as its new Head of Arts and Culture, overseeing HOTA, Home of the Arts.

Kotzas brings almost four decades of leadership experience in the arts sector, including more than 30 years at Queensland Performing Arts Centre, where he served as Chief Executive. Widely respected for his vision and strategic leadership, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021 for services to the arts.

Experience Gold Coast CEO John Warn described the appointment as an exciting new chapter for the Gold Coast, noting Kotzas’ ability to deliver compelling cultural experiences and attract new audiences.

Kotzas said he was thrilled to join the organisation at a pivotal moment, as the Gold Coast continues to strengthen its role as a dynamic arts and cultural destination in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

He praised outgoing Head of Arts and Culture Yarmila Alfonzetti for her work in shaping HOTA’s programming and artistic direction over the past two years.

Kotzas will officially commence in the role on 27 May 2026.
