After the successful residency and sell-out exhibition Boundary earlier this year, we wanted to see how the residency with Side Gallery impacted Kate’s general practice. The residency shifted process practices for Kate, and the emphasis when approaching a new piece has since been on continuing a considered and harmonious work. This more recent body of work captures the luminosity of under-layers and the smooth blending of colour, which is a shift from her previous practice. In Kate’s words, this body of work is an attempt at “sustaining the afterglow” of the residency.
