Hold the Dopamine is an exhibition of new artworks by Matthew Newkirk and Sebastian Moody.
Both artists create large-scale outdoor projections and for Hold the Dopamine they have turned their public-facing practices towards a gallery context.
In these works Newkirk’s ‘call to action’ and Moody’s poetic ambiguity offer subversive responses to contemporary media landscapes.
Matthew Newkirk’s practice utilises the same mediums and signifiers that deliver the news to us on a daily basis and investigates how mainstream media disrupts and distorts information. His research contributes to a new understanding of how power structures use new technologies and contemporary mediums in order to sustain their influence.
Sebastian Moody’s work in Hold the Dopamine is developed in collaboration with designer Sai Karlen. Equal parts gravitas and humour, Moody’s text-based artworks prompt the viewer to consider both what we think and why. Sebastian Moody’s work has been supported with a stART Grant through Arts Queensland and Metro Arts. He is represented by Onespace Gallery, Brisbane.
Sai Karlen is a multidisciplinary designer and creative director specialising in creating unique and experimental visuals for a variety of environments, mixing design, storytelling and technology.
Opening event Friday 30 October (6-8pm).
Exhibition continues until 5 November, via email appointment.
