Part of the Off Grid series, this informal lecture explores the ongoing fascination with mannerism in contemporary architecture. While rooted in art history, mannerism has been repeatedly revisited by architects since the mid-twentieth century—raising questions about style, theory, and architectural recovery in a post-crisis context.
The discussion will consider influential figures such as Denise Scott Brown, Robert Venturi, and C. Ray Smith, whose concept of “Supermannerism” continues to shape architectural discourse.
The evening features a lecture by Andrew Leach (Queensland University of Technology), followed by a conversation with art historian Andrea Bubenik (University of Queensland).
Off Grid is led by Andrew Wilson (University of Queensland) and Andrew Leach, bringing together critical perspectives on architecture and theory within the Brisbane context.
Networking drinks will follow the discussion. Seating is limited and registration is essential.
