Curated by artist and researcher Larissa Warren, ‘Shifting Ground’ explores the rich history of women potters from Tamborine Mountain, Queensland. The exhibition brings together works by twelve contemporary Australian artists alongside historical pieces by pioneering women potters from the region.
All artworks are created using Tamborine Mountain’s native volcanic clays, highlighting a deep connection between material, place, and tradition. Through this shared medium, the exhibition reflects on the enduring legacy of clay as both a physical substance and a storytelling device.
‘Shifting Ground’ is a celebratory and reflective project that connects past and present makers, inviting audiences to consider resilience, place-based practice, and the often unseen labour of creative women in regional Australia.
This touring exhibition is presented in partnership with Scenic Rim Regional Council and Museums & Galleries Queensland, and is supported by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program.
