Siegfried Manietta was born in Germany in 1947 and spent his formative years in Northern NSW and South-east Queensland. He worked commercially across a range of disciplines including retail, commercial / advertising photography, and colour laboratory entering the photography teaching profession in 1978.
Currently Siegfried is employed as a Senior Lecturer at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University Brisbane, Australia. From 1997 until 2004 he held the title of “Guest Professor of Photography” at the Central Academy of Fine Art Beijing, P.R. China where he is affectionately known as “Lao Fu”. In recognition of his dedication to building a photography department at the Academy, the Chinese Federal Government awarded Siegfried with a “Friendship Award” – their highest recognition for the work of visiting foreign experts.
In addition to teaching photography Siegfried’s research interests include evaluating photographic systems performance, holography and documenting the Australian landscape. His work has been collected and exhibited mainly in Australia and China.
