MONO and Queensland Film Festival (QFF) co-present a screening of films by British artist, filmmaker, and musician Luke Fowler.

Fowler will introduce this screening of a number of his works, including the acclaimed ‘Electro-Pythagoras (a portrait of Martin Bartlett)’ (2017). ‘Electro-Pythagoras’ pays tribute to the work and musical ideas of Martin Bartlett (1939-93), a proudly gay Canadian composer, who during the 1970s and 1980s pioneered the use of the microcomputer. Bartlett researched intimate relationships with technology and was particularly interested in handmade electronics.

Fowler’s 16mm films tell the stories of alternative movements in Britain, working with archival footage, photography and sound, to create portraits of intriguing counter cultural figures. Many earlier works focus on music and musicians, while more recently, sound has become a key concern.

Don’t miss this rare chance to see Fowler’s filmic works and hear from the filmmaker himself at the IMA. Find out more on the IMA website here.

MONO is a program of sound curated by Lawrence English of Room40. Queensland Film Festival’s program at the IMA is curated by John Edmond.
