2021 EXHIBITION PROGRAM
In 2021, Metro Arts will present a 12-month program of exhibitions across three galleries.
The program will feature exhibitions by early career through to established practitioners working across a diverse cross-section of contemporary visual art practice. The program will emphasise quality contemporary practice that demonstrates innovation, experimentation, rigour and critical engagement.
Our open call also includes an opportunity to exhibit at both Metro Arts and Bus Projects, in Melbourne, as part of the Common Ground project. To be considered for this additional opportunity, please indicate in the relevant section of the application form.
METRO ARTS GALLERY SPACES
- Gallery One measures 60m2 and is a rectangular white-walled space. The space has two potential configurations via an operable wall.
- Gallery Two measures 20m2 and is a rectangular space particularly suited to video works or intimate encounters with small-scale works.
- Window Gallery is a 5m2 space that incorporates a 4-metre glass façade facing onto Factory Lane. The space cannot be entered by the public, but is on constant public view.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Artists selected for the 2021 Exhibition Program will be paid artist fees.

2021 ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM
Our 2021 Artist in Residence Program offers artists the opportunity to work with Metro Arts; utilising dedicated space to develop, extend and experiment with their practice and create new work.
With two unique spaces available, we are calling on artists to tell us the ways they want to use these spaces. Tell us about the projects, research, making and experiments that you want to work on, which can benefit from, and develop within, this space. Please consider the limits, as well as the possibilities, of each space when developing your proposal.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE – SPACES AVAILABLE
In 2021, two venues will be available: The Ferryman’s Hut at 29 Macquarie St, Teneriffe, and the Substation at 97 Wynnum Rd, Norman Park.
Residency length at Ferryman’s Hut: Two weeks
Residency Length at Norman Park Substation: Between two and four weeks
Both spaces available: January – December 2021
