Jonathan McBurnie: Omnishambles

The Condensery

The Condensery The exhibition presents drawing as a visual response to rapid technological advancement. We are moving quickly toward a world where corporations are given license to cannibalise artistic works of all kinds in service of Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, with no expectation of recompense, but rather, the expectation to be paid for the privilege of its use.

Recent years have seen an increasingly treacherous landscape for artistic practice. This body of work pivots away from straight representation and pushes toward multiplicity and abstraction.

In contrast to exploitative AI image harvesting practices, Omnishambles instead refocuses artistic practice through collaboration and community, with daily workshops and drop-ins intended to expand the exhibition, with contributions added to the exhibition as they are created. Through this experience, the artist hopes to offer a considered and critical approach to drawing, abstraction, representation, and the engagement of digital tools in the aid (rather than the exploitation of) artistic practice.
