Lethbridge Gallery presents Hill End Entangled, a significant solo exhibition by Ryan W. Daffurn, emerging from a formative residency in the historic mining town of Hill End. Spanning seven years of creative evolution, the project seeks to make a “modest contribution” to the lineage of artists who have drawn inspiration from this storied landscape.

At the heart of the exhibition is The Greater Entanglement (2020–25), an ambitious polyptych—a multi-panel painting that extends Daffurn’s long-standing interest in myth, place, and painterly narrative. Drawing from both Christian and pagan traditions, European art history, and the raw physicality of the Australian landscape, Daffurn’s work intertwines symbolism, geological forms, and the passage of time.

The paintings are infused with themes of transformation, reverence, and mortality, explored through recurring motifs of bones, glass, and light. As Daffurn writes, “Each return to Hill End revealed new vantage points, imagery, and deeper insight.” Through this ongoing dialogue between site, spirit, and artistic tradition, Hill End Entangled becomes both homage and meditation—a poetic vision of Australia’s interior and its enduring creative pulse.

A book launch for Hill End Entangled, published by Bonfire Books, accompanies the exhibition. Visitors are invited to meet the artist and purchase a signed copy at Latrobe Art Space, 134 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, on Friday 10 October, 6:00–8:00pm.
