Maggie Cheung is one of Hong Kong cinema’s most iconic stars — celebrated for her expressive naturalism, grace, and genre-hopping versatility. From romantic comedies and martial arts epics to poignant arthouse dramas, Cheung’s screen presence defined an era.

Her breakthrough in Police Story (1985) and collaborations with Wong Kar-wai — culminating in the timeless In the Mood for Love (2000) — cemented her international acclaim. This retrospective showcases more than 20 of her films, many screening from new digital restorations and imported 35mm prints.

Curated by Robert Hughes and Sophie Hopmeier, Australian Cinémathèque.
Presented with support from the NFSA, Hong Kong Film Archive, and others.
