Jemima Wyman: Deep Surface

Deadline:

16 February
-
May 31
QUT Art Museum

Deep Surface is the first career survey of Los Angeles–based Australian artist and Palawa woman Jemima Wyman. Spanning three decades of practice from the mid-1990s to the 2020s, the exhibition brings together collage, textiles, installation, video, performance, and painting.

Drawing from the QUT Art Collection alongside significant private and public loans, the exhibition features rarely seen early works as well as Wyman’s highly recognisable collages of colourful smoke imagery. Curated in close collaboration with Katherine Dionysius, Deep Surface reflects a partnership grounded in respect, artistic ambition, and critical depth. The exhibition marks a significant homecoming for Wyman as a QUT alumna and will tour to major university art museums interstate in 2026 and 2027.

Coinciding with the exhibition is the launch of a major 208-page hardcover monograph—the first publication dedicated solely to Wyman’s work—featuring new scholarly texts by leading international and Australian writers.
