Mono 59 presents a live performance by Tujiko Noriko alongside Brisbane-based artist Joseph Burgess (Unregistered Master Builder) at the Institute of Modern Art.
Since the early 2000s, Tujiko Noriko has redefined the possibilities of avant-pop. Her albums Girl City and Make Me Hard, released through Mego, transformed song structures through extreme processing and real-time manipulation of music and voice. Her work blends lyrical interplay, fractured harmonies, stuttered rhythms and chaotic noise. Over time she has expanded her practice into ambient compositions, film soundtracks and collaborative works. She returns to Brisbane/Meanjin for Mono for the first time in over a decade.
She is joined by Unregistered Master Builder, whose practice operates at the intersection of textiles, sound and kinetic art.
Mono is the experimental sound program of the Institute of Modern Art, curated by Room40. Since 2006, the series has presented boundary-pushing sonic experimentation in Brisbane/Meanjin and celebrates its twentieth anniversary in 2026.
Event: 22 March 2026 6:30–8pm
