Now showing at Edwina Corlette Gallery, Foliage #3 — Recent Works presents a new body of paintings by Judith Sinnamon, continuing her exploration of light, landscape, and the Australian environment.
Sinnamon’s practice centres on the shifting qualities of light as it interacts with trees and foliage. These works capture the quiet luminosity of early morning, where soft sunlight reveals the subtle hues and textures of native leaves and bark before the intensity of midday.
Drawing from both the Sunshine Coast Hinterland on Jinibara Country and the desert landscapes of Alice Springs (Mparntwe) on Arrernte Country, the exhibition contrasts lush treescapes with stark, expansive environments. Deep blue skies and ghost gums become recurring motifs, reflecting moments of stillness, awe, and contemplation.
Alongside these landscapes, Sinnamon presents studio-based compositions of suspended foliage, painted under diffused light to evoke a meditative atmosphere. Across the exhibition, her work invites viewers to pause, look upward, and experience the quiet abstraction of nature.
