Haptic Fiction presents a new body of work by Brisbane/Meanjin artist Edwina McLennan, exploring the intersection of textiles, painting, consumer culture, and digital imagery.
Originally trained in fashion design at the Royal Academy of Antwerp, McLennan draws on visual language from fashion magazines and mass media, deconstructing and reassembling these materials into layered, surreal compositions. Her works combine handmade, mechanical, and digital processes, resulting in richly textured surfaces that blur the boundaries between physical and virtual worlds.
Positioned between the natural and the synthetic, these reconstructed landscapes reflect on how consumer imagery shapes identity, perception, and desire. Through this hybrid practice, McLennan invites viewers to consider the tactile and psychological impact of image culture in contemporary life.
