Zaachariaha Fielding: Nintirigu

Deadline:

15 April
-
May 9
Jan Murphy Gallery

Nintirigu (“I learnt”) is a powerful new exhibition by Zaachariaha Fielding, reflecting deep connections to family, culture, and Country. Born and raised in Mimili on the APY Lands, Fielding draws on intergenerational knowledge and artistic lineage, including the influence of his father, senior artist Robert Fielding.

Well known as one half of the electronic music duo Electric Fields, Fielding extends his performative and musical practice into painting. His works are energetic and visceral, embedded with iconography inspired by Inma—a living cultural practice of ceremonial song and dance that honours Anangu culture and ancestors.

Fielding describes his paintings as deeply intertwined with sound and memory, each work echoing experiences from his community in Mimili. His practice bridges visual art and music, creating works that feel both contemporary and culturally grounded.

His achievements include winning the Wynne Prize in 2023, and being a finalist in major awards such as the Sulman Art Prize and Ramsay Art Prize. His work is held in significant collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
