Onespace invites you to an exhibition of ceramics by Baylee Griffin, The Space Here, in the Lounge Gallery.
Based between Bidjara lands (Charleville) and Dharawal lands (Wollongong), Griffin’s ceramic practice is grounded in resilience, reciprocity and an embodied eco-centric philosophy. Working with locally sourced materials, Griffin explores the interconnected relationships between people and place, allowing the qualities of the land to shape each work.
In this latest body of work, Griffin’s practice expands to explore sculptural forms inspired by meteorites and Australian flora, informed by their recent residency at La Wayaka Current in Chile. Through these works, The Space Here reflects on the subtle relationships between landscape, material and the spaces we inhabit.
Essay writer Michael Smith states that, “In The Space Here, the metal and dust vessels and curled floating coils are formed from recycled and found, ancient clays of this earth. Griffin adds varying percentages of metal oxides to both clay bodies and glazes to emulate the composition of iron-based meteorites.”
