Join the Institute of Modern Art for Essay Club No. 8 with independent curator and arts writer Holly Eddington.
The session will explore a section from Lucy Lippard’s Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object from 1966 to 1972, an experimental publication structured as a chronological timeline of press releases, essays, interviews and notes.
Eddington will consider Lippard’s approach to Six Years as a “curatorial project” and examine the expanded responsibilities of the arts worker, including new approaches to exhibition-making, the evolving role of the arts writer and gendered forms of cultural labour.
Essay Club provides a space for university students, emerging arts workers, artists and others interested in critical discussions around contemporary art and culture. Each session focuses on a text selected by an arts worker or artist, considering how global ideas and conversations might translate locally.
The essay will be emailed to participants upon registration.
