Road Trip, A Residency is the third iteration of Side Gallery’s residency project, curated by Laura Brinin and directed by Leesa Hickey.
A small group of artists travelled to Armidale for a long weekend to explore how their practices might shift when removed from their usual studios and routines. Artists were encouraged to make, wander, connect, reflect and respond intuitively to the landscape, architecture and rhythm of the New England region.
During the residency, the artists visited NERAM, met with its Director Rachael Parsons, explored the museum’s educational collection and connected with artists in Armidale and nearby Walcha.
The resulting exhibition brings together new works by Side Gallery artists Col Mac, Jessica McNicol, Rhianna Phillips and Samuel Kiernan, responding to Armidale’s landscape, township, people and environment.
