Gulbuuygu celebrates eight years of collaboration between Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Fashion students and artists from the Hope Vale Arts and Culture Centre in Cape York Peninsula. The exhibition takes its name from a Guugu Yimithirr word meaning “together”.
The exhibition features garments and textiles developed through the partnership, alongside works on paper revealing the initial designs behind them. A selection of paintings by Hope Vale artists provides cultural and creative context for the collaboration while affirming the artists’ independent practices.
Grounded in learning, creativity and respect for cultural knowledge, Gulbuuygu presents collaboration as an ongoing dialogue shaped by trust, place and shared making over time.
