The Old Windmill (Wickham Park)

The Old Windmill at Wickham Park, Spring Hill, will be lit-up by digital artist Alinta Krauth with a projection-mapped art installation on the 17th and 18th of April, from 5 to 8pm. The installation titled, Wind blisters and those who try to run is part of the U.R{BNE} Festival 2015 Wickham Park Showcase, which will activate Wickham Park with tours of the Old Windmill, music performances, art and lighting installations, and several of Brisbane’s most popular food trucks. The work is curated by Brisbane-based creative agency Engage Arts for the U.R{BNE} Festival. Wind blisters and those who try to run will shine a light on Brisbane’s oldest building and coincides with the National Trust Heritage Festival and International Year of Light celebrations. Kerry Turnbull, Director of Engage Arts said, “Engage Arts is interested in working with artists using digital technology to transform cityscapes and reshape our experience of the city”. Krauth’s site-specific installation will use the technology of digital projection mapping to transform the windmill’s plain bricks into colourful, abstract artworks, which become tiny narratives that explore the concepts of light and shadow. “The heritage-listed Windmill felt like the right place for this work as the U.R {BNE} Festival aims to shine a light on overlooked city spaces and visitors have a chance to explore the Windmill’s convict history with guided heritage tours on Saturday 18 April”, Kerry said. Alinta Krauth’s installation invites the audience to reflect on Brisbane’s oldest surviving building and make their own interpretation of the Old Windmill’s shadowy past.
