Cars = My Automolove examines automobility in contemporary culture and the nature of automotive love. It features historical and contemporary artworks from emerging, established and significant Australian artists who explore the physical, psychological and cultural role automobiles play in Australia and their iconic place within our lives. These artworks have been sourced from commercial galleries, artists, private collectors and public collecting institutions. Cars = My Automolove is a Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Gallery Network exhibition led by guest curator Stephen Hobson.
The exhibition looks at five aspects of car culture and each theme locates the artworks in a context relevant to our day to day relationship with cars. These are: Road closed! Access open!, This year’s model = Last year’s model, Sex and cars = Cars in sex, Our dreams, our pleasure = Our mayhem, our loss, and Survive the drive = Drive to survive.
