Franck Gohier: Soup Cans

Deadline:

9 August
-
September 3
Mitchell Fine Art

Darwin-based artist Franck Gohier returns to Mitchell Fine Art with an exhibition of artworks that explores his interests in appropriation and iconoclasm.

Born in France but raised in and identifying as Australian, Franck has always been intrigued with concepts of identity. Utilising Andy Warhol’s Soup Can imagery, Gohier ponders the concept of identity.

Can we identify en masse by our cuisine?

What if Warhol grew up in Northern Australia?

‘To live in the far north of Australia is to experience an amalgam of colloquialisms, Indigenous influences, Asian flavours, and a hint of the residual European ‘mother country’.

If nothing else, my conclusion would be that it is our irreverent sense of humour that consolidates this essentially disparate collective of humans as ‘Australian’.  Franck Gohier 2022

Franck Gohier has an extensive portfolio as a painter, sculptor, and printmaker. His artwork is steeped in his political and social consciousness.

The exhibition is showing from 9th August to 3rd September 2022 at Mitchell Fine Art in Arthur St, Fortitude Valley Brisbane.

An exhibition opening will be held on Friday 12th August, from 6 – 8pm with Franck in attendance.

On Saturday 13th August Franck will hold an Artist Talk in the Gallery from 11am. All events are free and rsvp’s are not required.

Mitchell Fine Art is open 6 days a week; Monday to Friday 10am – 5.30pm and Saturday 10am – 5pm, with parking available onsite.
