Free public panel discussion on world-making in the visual arts, with presentations by University of Queensland art history staff Dr Amelia Barikin, Associate Professor Rex Butler, Dr Sally Butler, and Dr Allison Holland. Sally Butler investigates the complexities of globalised world-making in Australian indigenous art and literature; Rex Butler reads Australian painter Ralph Balson’s works against a history of global abstraction; Allison Holland considers transnational world cultures in relation to the immersive installations of Moon Kyungwon and Jeon Joonho, and Amelia Barikin asks: why do some artists make worlds, while others make works?
This free public event is presented by UQ Art Museum and AULLA (Australian Universities Languages and Literature Association) as a special component of the AULLA Worldmaking Conference at the University of Queensland 10-12 July 2013.
