Addition #5 explores an alternative approach to visual practice based on a materialist ontology for the work of art. Mitchell Donaldson, Llewellyn Millhouse, Shanna Muston and Sarah Poulgrain will activate material and process, embodying a number of non-representational modes of making and understanding artwork. The show will also feature images of artifacts from the RD Milns Antiquities Museum at the University of Queensland. Taken out of the museum context, these objects regain some of the ambiguity of meaning they may have had when first discovered, raising questions around the interpretation and value of material history.
