WHEN : 5th July, 5:30pm
WHERE : Metro Arts
Join Friday Night: July, as Ahmarnya Price joins us with Takeover#3: Rumpus. Continuing on the Takeover series – works in an advanced stage of development showcasing at Metro Arts – Ahmarnya will take us on a walk to the height of the civilised world and ask; when the Rumpus Room becomes violent, who is going to stay ‘stop!’? Takeover#3: Rumpus continues on from Ahmarnya’s work at VCA and promises to be an exciting new work of live art.
Continuing on the conversation initiated at Friday Night: June, Eric Rossi and our Artists in Residence, Marcel Daniels & Daniel Herberg, are joined by a panel of guests to discuss the role of the artist in the globalised world. Riffing on from discussions of process and concepts they’ve been having over the past month, they’re joined by Jan Manton among others.
Also presenting on the evening will be dance and performance maker Frances Barbe. With an excerpt of developing work, ‘Saudade’, Frances and her performers ruminate on shared experiences of grieving and remembrance. The short sequence will eventually form part of a full length work on the intensity of human grieving – a pain we would not be without.
Among other open studios, Level ARI will be opening their doors to show the results of artist Dord Burrough’s residency. ‘The Howling Unknown’ explores our relationship with the natural world, non-physical realms, and emotional paths. A mix of oil painting and sculptural work, the exhibition is the result of Dord’s 3 month residency (and visitors to Dord’s open studio last month will remember her beautiful small and pseudo-organic sculptural work).
With heaps more work to be announced in the coming days, Friday Night: July is an exciting addition to our new platform for process, work in development, and a rich critical dialogue. Takeover#3 is ticketed at $10, and access to the rest of the night is entirely free.
