LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION GROUP EXHIBITION CALLOUT
Curated by emerging curator Alice Maia Rezende
Where: JWAC façade
Dates: 7 May – 1 August, 2020
Location, location, location will examine the issue of ‘location’ as landscapes of centrality vs. periphery, and as inhabitable sites of desire and longing. As guideline starting points, we ask you to engage with questions such as:
-
In what way does location enable or obscure one’s visibility?
-
How does location, as a site that enables exposure, modulate one’s experience with varying levels of (informational or visual) saturation and/or surveillance?
-
How can we envision location as hybrids ‘and/ors’, without resorting to thinking in binaries (eg., visible/invisible, privileged/precarious)?
Twelve artists will be included in the group exhibition, which will take the form of 3 x 1 month iterations (showcasing 4 artists in each showreel). Each participating artist will receive an artist fee of $1009.00.
Early-mid professional career artists, artist duos and collectives who currently reside in Queensland and are not undergraduate students are eligible. First Nations, people of colour, regional, queer, and gender diverse artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
Site & Artwork Specifications
This is a public-facing projection-based exhibition, with strict visual and moving technical specifications (see below). Your artwork does not need to be finalised upon submission to the EOI, however, we strongly suggest you provide draft images, GIFs, storyboards, sketches etc.
Please note that you will receive technical assistance with your final artwork.
Façade content will not depict offensive, inappropriate, indecent or distasteful material in any way.
In addition, there must be:
-
No use of red/green/orange/yellow and any animation/moving imagery to the bottom blue corner – refer to diagram at Figure 1
-
Any animation limited to very slow moving only and minor in nature. The inclusion of animation risks delays in review (additional time must be provided for approval of content)
-
Where static imagery is used, long duration display periods are preferred in order to reduce motorist distraction – each screen must have a minimum display period of eight (8) seconds.
-
Where static imagery is used, the time taken for consecutive screens/images to change should be less than 0.5 seconds;
-
Where static imagery or bold transitions are used, the complete screen display must change instantaneously or smoothly fade over an extended period. Methods of display change such as ‘fly in’ or ‘scroll’, or any other type of message change, are not allowed.
-
No element of the piece will resemble a traffic sign or be capable of being confused with a traffic control device.
