The annual Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA) run by not-for-profit Flying Arts Alliance return for 2022 offering over $40,000 in prizes and awards for artists in Queensland’s rural and remote communities.
The Queensland Regional Art Awards has been a familiar highlight on the regional arts calendar for over ten years, offering a significant opportunity for artists located outside of the Brisbane City Council area to engage in professional development and reach an audience beyond their locality.
In 2022, the QRAA is an invitation to explore the concept of ‘Reframe’, calling artists to enter work that draws upon experiences and observations, of the past year or two and respond to our changing world.
Flying Arts’ QRAA is looking for stimulating entries that address this broad concept through the visual arts. Taking into consideration the widespread economic and environmental impacts on the arts sector in current times QRAA is an occasion to express and share the creativity and imagination thriving in the regions.
Flying Arts Alliance CEO Kerryanne Farrer stated –
“Queensland artists constantly surprise us with their unique and innovative entries each year. We know that artists look forward to the QRAA coming around again, not only for the opportunity to win a prize – it is also a way that artists across the state to connect, support and learn from each other.
“The concept ‘Reframe’ is an opportunity for artists to see their current situation from a different perspective, to use their problem-solving and decision-making skills to respond and potentially engage in new ways of making art. We encourage anyone in regional Queensland to enter.”
This year’s competition offers participating artists a chance to win over $40,000 worth of prizes across 8 award categories and the opportunity to be considered for a potential touring exhibition in 2023. A $10,000 non-acquisitive cash prize will be awarded to the major prize winner.
